DENMARK HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Dear Community Member and Friends of Denmark,

The bandstand in Star Park is deteriorating  and in need of a major renovation. If there was no history to the bandstand, it would probably be easy to let it go. However, that is not the case. Our Denmark Bandstand has  a long and glorious history.

It was built in 1907, for the Denmark  Cornet Band. It was designed by Robert Sholtz, a community resident. Incidentally,  he continues to reside here in the Denmark Cemetery. The cornet band, composed of local and area young men, entertained for many years. You may be related to one. The Woodroffe's still have Charles' uniform. Ted Sloat went on to form his own band. By July 4,1907, the bandstand was completed and Denmark's Celebration included a concert. And in recent years weddings have graced its presence.

Thus, the Denmark Historical Society, whose goal is to preserve our rich heritage for future generations, is spearheading a "SAVE  THE BANDSTAND" campaign. We need your help. The cost has been estimated at approximately  $10,000. An account has been established at the Denmark Farmer's Savings Bank for your tax  deductible gift. Gifts may be mailed to "SAVE THE BANDSTAND", P.O. Box 64, Denmark, IA 52624. You may also leave your gift at the Denmark Bank. Our intent is to work with the Denmark Township Trustees, and as funds become available, complete the project.

We thank you for your consideration and help with this project. We always welcome ideas, stories, and copies of pictures you may have that help us preserve our community's heritage.
